Missions

Why?

We believe strongly in the Great Commission.  "And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, "All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age." (Matthew 28:18-20)

How?

To that end, FBC Pompano gave over $200,000 to mission work in 2010.  We give ten percent of our general offering to missions.  Seven percent goes toward the Cooperative Program, which is the missions arm of the Southern Baptist Convention.  One percent goes to the Gulf Stream Baptist Association and two percent goes toward the mission of work of FBC Pompano for starting new churches, mission trips and mission projects.

Missions In Action

In January of 2010, the island nation of Haiti was hit with a devastating earthquake. While many relief groups scrambled to jump into action. Southern Baptists were already there. Because of giving to the Cooperative Program, we had a direct line to Haiti and were able to begin meeting their needs.  Through the Florida Baptist Convention, a national campaign was launched called Buckets of Hope. Just like other churches across the country, we were called upon to furnish a specific list of non-perishable food items and FBC Pompano purchased the buckets & lids. Our student ministry was the assembly team, packing each bucket carefully and lovingly. Each bucket contained enough food staples to feed a family for several days and they would then be able to use the bucket to carry water for cooking & drinking.
