Everything you are above zero is a gift from God.
I consider this to be one of the most life-changing truths I have learned from God’s word. This may be a humbling statement, but it is true indeed! Think about it! When you look at something in your life and say “That’s good” well, that’s of God. In fact, the Bible says the good stuff is all of God. “Don’t be deceived, my dear brothers. Every good and perfect gift is from above…” (James 1:16-17a). Interestingly, in the context, James tells us too that evil doesn’t come from God “God cannot be tempted by evil, nor does He tempt anyone (with evil)” (James 1:13). You put these two statements together and James, in his own words, is saying: The bad stuff in life is not of God—but the good stuff in life is all of God.
When you look at the good things of your life you need to remember that it did not get here on its own—it had help. God is the provider of every good thing—the producer of every blessing. If you have been blessed, then God should be thanked!
It’s amazing how we tend to blame God for the bad stuff in our life and fail to thank Him for the good things in our life. When it comes to the good and perfect things in our life—He deserves the honor and praise!
It will change your life radically if you will begin to comprehend this: Life is a gift! Everything I have and everything I am is a gift from God. Please understand, I am responsible for doing something with my life. The Bible calls me a steward of life. I must make choices and seek to do right things. But whatever positive things I do in life are but the realization of the life God designed for me. I use the tools provided for me, with the energy available to me, in the purposes laid out for me, with the wisdom granted to me, by the grace afforded me, to do the work assigned to me.
Know this: All of creation that I enjoy and experience is mine by a gift wrapped in love and presented to me from the Creator of the universe.
Life may have been hard for you recently for that happens to us all in certain seasons. But even then, there are still plenty of reasons to offer Thanksgiving to God. If you can say today about your life: “I am blessed” then let God be praised!
Best Wishes in this Thanksgiving Season,
