Live With Love

This will be my last blog before the New Year and so I want to leave you with one important word: LOVE. The Apostle Paul introduced a favorite chapter in the New Testament with these words: “And now I will show you the most excellent way” (1 Corinthians 12:31). Then, for the whole next chapter, he went on to talk about the subject of LOVE.

How valuable is this quality in human personality? It is so essential that the whole of scripture commends and commands the most excellent way of love in our relationships. This quality is expected to be demonstrated daily by you to those closest to you and those at a distance from you. This quality should be extended to family and friends as well as to neighbors and strangers. The sphere of your love should include the whole world even as is God’s love. Remember Jesus answered the question, “Who is my neighbor?” with the story of the Good Samaritan. In so doing, we come to understand that everyone who falls within the circumference of our reach is our neighbor. And the most excellent way is to love our neighbor as our self. It is what Jesus taught us to do and what scripture reminds us to do—

  • “Love the Lord your God with all your heart…and love your neighbor as yourself” (Luke 10:27).
  • “Love one another” (John 13:34).
  • “The fruit of the Spirit is love…” (Galatians 5:22).
  • “The only thing that counts is faith that expresses itself in love” (Galatians 5:6).
  • “The goal of the commandments is love (1 Timothy 1:5).
  • “Whoever loves God must also love his brother” (1 John 4:21).

There are many noble traits in life but none are more important than love. That is why Paul said, “The greatest of these is love” (1 Corinthians 13:13). So every day make it your goal to show love to everyone you meet. Let the love of Jesus always shine bright in your life! That would be a worthy resolution for the New Year—don’t you think?

Devotedly yours,

Pastor Ron
