My Opinion on the Subject…

I read recently an article about a group of ornithologists who spent a period of time studying a family of eagles on the edge of a canyon. They were able to observe and film an eaglet hatching and then growing. On the 67th day, the little bird perched on the edge of the nest for over an hour, stretched its wings to test the air, and then leaned forward into the wind over the canyon’s edge. Finally, the eaglet’s legs pushed off the nest and it began to fly, though unsteady, for the first time. As it descended, some nearby hawks began to dive-bomb the little eaglet. Consequently, the small bird lost control so completely that it flew dangerously close to the canyon wall. But, just at the right moment, the father and mother eagles flew down to the eaglet, positioned themselves on either side of him and flew next to him in formation. This allowed the eaglet to use the thermal currents from their wings to stabilize and then to fly safely back to the nest.
God spoke through Moses once and said to Israel. “I carried you on eagles’ wings and brought you to myself” (Exodus 19:4). Indeed, scripture promises us as well that “(God) will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge” (Psalm 91:4).

We may very well find ourselves in challenging circumstances and in danger of crashing into a wall of misfortune, but our God has promised to come along beside us, to stabilize us, and then to bring us safely to a place of rest. This is the great promise of Psalm 91 and an example of God’s goodness. It’s a wonderful thing to trust in our God and then to rest in the shadow of the Almighty!
So the next time you have to wing it…trust the Lord to get you through it!
Devotedly yours,
Pastor Ron
