Rx for Trying Times

Your spiritual Doctor has a prescription for you today! Really, it is an Rx to be taken daily. The source is this verse, “Be joyful in hope; patient in affliction, faithful in prayer” (Romans 12:12). Here’s your Rx: Vitamin B – 3. Be all 3 daily!

Be Joyful

The word for joyful here is chairo. This joy is a by-product of God’s grace. God gives us the gift of joy despite the circumstances of life. This means we have the capability of joy as Christians and, even more so, the responsibility for joy. Abraham Lincoln once said, “Most people are about as happy as they choose to be.” You have a reservoir of joy from which to draw whenever you choose. It’s true! You have a choice to rejoice! The apostle Paul says further, “Be joyful in hope.” Our ability to rejoice stems from our steadfast hope. Our outcome one day determines our outlook today! That is why we can be joyful every day!

Be Patient

Though we have the opportunity to rejoice every day, it doesn’t deliver us from the possibility of adversity on any given day. You can’t escape trouble—neither should you pretend it is not there. To be patient is to endure the miseries and adversities of life in faith. In the midst of a pandemic that doesn’t seem to want to go away—this is our only choice. Be patient by God’s grace. And then—

Be Prayerful

There are not too many things that we are told to do always but prayer is one of them. Scripture says, “Pray always” (Luke 18:1) and “Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17). We are to remain faithful in prayer and learn to pray every day. Yeah, that includes during tough times. Further, trust God who has the answers to your prayers in those times. Is it too much to ask that we would trust the One who has everything under His control? So that is my Rx for you in these trying times—now don’t forget to take your B – 3 daily!

Devotedly yours,

Dr. Ron
