Some Things are Hard to Swallow

I can identify with the small boy whose parents were insisting that he eat some spinach. The boy said, “Why are all the vitamins in spinach and not in ice cream where they belong?”

I’m not really sure why; I am only sure that’s the way life is. Spinach is packed with more of the kind of nutrition that you need than ice cream. It’s also true that the tough experiences of life often bring more of what we really need than the easy experiences of life.

God uses the unfortunate situations in life to accomplish His purposes. He uses adversity to bring about conformity to Christ’s likeness. God uses problems to make us more like Jesus. God may not have caused it, but He knows how to use it to bring good out of it. And sometimes that is just what we need.

Remember word of the Apostle Paul: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love Him, who have been called according to His purpose” (Romans 8:28).

So the next time you are in an experience which is hard to swallow (like spinach), ask God to give you insight as to how He might work to bring about good and to further His great purpose in your life.

Devotedly yours,
Pastor Ron
