This is a Promise from Jesus

In the Upper Room after Jesus washed the feet of the disciples, He said to them, “I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you…Now that you know these things you will be blessed if you do them” (John 13:15, 17).
Jesus teaches us that blessing comes from serving. If your think about it, that makes perfect sense. It stands to reason that you are going to feel better about yourself, and within yourself, if you are giving something of yourself back to others. Indeed, inner peace comes when we give a piece of our lives away in service. The promise of Jesus is that you will be blessed if you choose to first be a blessing to others. It’s real simple but true—you will be happier if you do!
There is a great old story about a man who was given the opportunity to visit both Heaven and Hell before he died. When he got to Hell, he found that everybody was unhappy, miserable and angry. He noticed that everyone in Hell had plenty of food to eat but they all had stiff elbows. So there hands were filled with good food but they were unhappy because none of them could bend their elbows to eat anything.
Then he visited Heaven and was surprised at what he saw. They too had stiff elbows. But they were happy! They had plenty of food, their hands were filled with delicious food, but they had learned one thing. They had learned to feed each other! This is what made all the difference.
When we learn to give of ourselves to others, it will make a difference in our lives and that of others. I think it is what partly explains the difference between being happy and unhappy in life. The road to happiness starts when we begin to let go of a life of being selfish and take hold of a life of service. Let’s follow the perfect example Jesus has left us. Choose to be happy and bless others along the way.
