This Is Not The Time To Fear

I read about a man who was shipwrecked on a small island for several years. Finally, he was spotted by a passing ship. A fellow from the ship approached the island in a small boat and said, “Here is a bundle of newspapers. The captain said you should read them before deciding if you want to be rescued.”

You may feel kind of like that right now. You may feel like you have been quarantined on a small island for a while and now just as you are about ready to get back to life, you see the current news of the things happening across our nation, and you find yourself saying, “Forget civilization—I’m staying put for now.”

Hey, there is a lot of craziness out there and it looks kind of scary. Going on-line to watch the news is not my favorite thing to do these days. I am concerned about the state of things…but I’m pretty sure fear and isolation is not the right solution.

Life has to go on and we need to remind ourselves that God is still on His throne. This is not the time to fear, but the time to pray. This is not the time to fret, but the time to trust. This is not a time for hatred, but the time for love. This is not a time to retreat, but the time to engage. Run from destructive thoughts and run to constructive actions.

But how should we view recent events and all those who engage in hatred, violence, anarchy and senseless destruction? The word of God gives us direction—

“Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong; for like the grass they will soon whither, like green plants they will soon die away. Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture. Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart. Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this: He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun. Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him.” (Psalm 37:1-7).

So do not fret nor forget that God has got this. Instead, trust in Him to do this and then go about doing good as His witness.

Devotedly yours, Pastor Ron
