Facing Your Giants

A few years ago I was privileged to lead a workshop at a women’s conference. The theme was “Facing Your Giants”. My workshop was entitled “Joining forces to face challenges”.

Girls, we know we can’t face our challenges alone. We have to join forces in front of God and help each other as sisters in Christ. Ecclesiastes 4:12 – “Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken”

I think it is safe to say we all have giants in our lives. Would you not agree? Our tendency may be to ignore them and “they’ll go away”. Or, convince ourselves “I dealt with that giant a long time ago”. Unfortunately, it keeps rearing its ugly head. Right?

I would venture to say the COVID 19 Pandemic may have added a giant or two in your life.

Do you have a gnawing that is annoying you yet you can’t quite put your finger on it? It may be that giant in your life. In order to face our giant(s) we have to first IDENTIFY them.

Can you relate to any of the following? Take a few minutes to honestly process the items below. There may be something not listed, feel free to add it.

  • Relationship Problem (marriage, friendships, family)
  • Health Issues (disease, pain)
  • Financial Issues (unemployed, not enough money)
  • Emotions (worries, fears, doubts, anxieties, grief, depression, discouragement, stresses)
  • Addictions (drugs, alcohol, food, sexual addictions)
  • Failures we cannot forget
  • Wounds that won’t heal
  • Forgiveness (of self or others)
  • COVID 19 Pandemic

Alright girls, now that we’ve identified the giant(s), how do we achieve victory over them?

John 5:4 tells us “For everyone born of God overcomes the world.  This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith”

  • Who is it that overcomes the world? Everyone born of God.
  • Are you born of God? Have you come to a place in your life that you know for certain you have eternal life and will go to heaven when you die?  Suppose you were standing before God right now and He asked you “Why should I let you into My heaven?”  What would you say?
  • If you don’t have assurance of your eternal life, girlfriend that is a HUGE giant and it needs to be slayed now! Let’s look at the following:
  • Our Need: Romans 3:23 tells us “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”. Do you agree you are a sinner?
  • God’s Purpose: Romans 6:23 goes on to tell us what we deserve because of our sin – “For the wages of sin is death, BUT, the gift of God is eternal life”. How can we get that gift of eternal life?
  • Christ’s Death: Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrated His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners Christ died for us”.  Christ died for everyone, which means you.
  • Christ’s Resurrection: Romans 4:25: He (Jesus) was delivered over to death for our sins, and was raised to life for our justification. Today, Christ is alive

The only way Jesus can affect our lives is for us to receive Him.  The Bible says “Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God” John 1:12.

So, what is our Response: Acts 3:19 – “Repent, then, and turn to God so that your sins may be wiped out”.  Repentance is turning away from your sin and turning to God through Jesus.   Ephesians 2:8 “For it is by grace you have been saved through faith, and this not of yourselves, it is a gift of God”.  Faith is trusting in Jesus.  Romans 10:9 – 10:  “That if you confess with your mouth ‘Jesus is Lord’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved”.  Surrendering to Jesus as Lord is giving Jesus control of our lives.

If you would like to be born of God and receive Jesus into your life now, you can invite Him by prayer.  You can pray something like this “Dear Lord Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God and died to forgive me of my sins.  I know I have sinned.  I ask You to forgive me. I turn from my sins, and I receive You as my Lord and Savior. Thank You for saving me. I want to live for You the rest of my life. In Jesus Name, Amen.

If you prayed this prayer, I would love to hear from you and place some literature in your hands that can help you grow in your faith. My contact info is below.

Next time we gather, our key scripture will be I Samuel 17:45.

Until then…………….
