Fully Devoted To God

Evangelist/Pastor Wilbur Chapman came to General William Booth (Founder of the Salvation Army) in his later years and asked, “Sir, you have been singularly, and uniquely, used of God—what is the secret to your success?” He looked through weary eyes and a wrinkled face and said to Chapman, “I will tell you the secret: God has had all of me there is to have. There have been men of greater opportunity, but from the day I caught a vision of what Jesus Christ could do, I gave my all to Him.”

This is an example of a life fully devoted to God! This is commitment without conditions. It is at the heart of all great men and women of God—

·       It is Job crying out in the middle of his painful experience:
“Though He slay me, yet will I trust Him.”
·       It is Dietrich Bonhoeffer praying in a Nazi prison camp:
“Lord, whatever this day may bring, Your Name be
praised!”
·       It is Susannah Wesley (mother of John and Charles Wesley)
calling her children to her deathbed and saying to them:
“Children, as soon as I am released, sing a hymn of praise!”
·       It is the Apostle Paul writing from his prison cell: “Rejoice
(with me) in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice…For
to me to live is Christ and to die is gain.”

Let these serve as an inspiration to us all to live wholly devoted to God! That is our calling as followers of Jesus. That is how we are to live as Christ’s disciples!

“I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercies, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—which is your reasonable service” (Romans 12:1).

Devotedly yours,
Pastor Ron
